The Pontiac Silverdome used to be one of the leaders in the generic domed stadium sweepstakes. Judging by its current appearance we shouldn't expect any more Super Bowls to be coming to the Detroit suburb.
The Siverdome was home to Super Bowl XVI, Wrestlemania III, the pathetic Detroit Lions for 26 years, the Pistons for 10 years, the FIFA World Cup in 1994, NCAAF bowl games, NCAAB March Madness games, and countless tractor pulls and motocross races.
It's always sad to see a building that brought so much excitement to sports fans (and also some Detroit Lions games) just rotting away like this. The contents of the stadium are currently being auctioned off by the owners Triple Investment Group LLC, but it's sad to me that it took this long.
There was recently some very serious wind damage to the roof that has made the whole situation look way worse. Hopefully, when they blow it all up we will get a cool implode video to marvel at
