Pittsburgh Penguins forward and Stanley Cup champion Phil Kessel was suspiciously left off the Team USA roster for the World Cup of Hockey. The snub was questionable at best and presumably had more to do with style of play versus talent but, why would you leave off the leading playoff scorer for the current Stanley Cup champions?

I’m sure there’s an answer to that question but it doesn’t hold up today after Team USA was bounced in the preliminary round. Not the results expected from a country with one of most talented hockey pools to chose from in the tournament.

Things are going to have to change for Team USA and the brain trust is going to have to make some changes, most notably head coach John Tortorella. Torts is clearly a proud patriot but its become clear that the game has passed him by and his old school approach simply doesn’t work in 2016. No, this isn’t breaking news to hockey fans as he’s been fired from three NHL jobs in the last decade. I would suspect whoever was pushing for Tortorella to be the head coach is also going to be worried about their job security.

Moments after Team USA was eliminated Kessel threw shade all over Team USA leadership with a brilliant tweet:

It appears Phil the Thrill is a little salty after being left off the squad and picked the perfect moment to exact some revenge. And Twitter loved it:
