It took until the 249th overall pick, but the NFL's first openly gay player (assuming he makes the final roster) was drafted in the 7th round on Saturday by the St. Louis Rams.
ESPN had a camera crew planted at Sam's home draft party and they caught a truly genuine moment on film. An emotional Michael Sam unable to speak into the phone when receiving his draft call from Rams officials and celebrating with his boyfriend Vito after the call.
Hopefully it's an easy transition for him into the NFL.
Congrats Mr. Sam.
