The start of the 2017-2018 NHL season is still a few weeks away, but over in Russia the KHL season has started and guys are playing like it’s the postseason.
Dinamo Riga opened up their season against Avangard Omsk and it was not the start Dinamo R and more specifically Mikelis Redlihs was hoping for. Not only did they lose the game 3-1, but winger Redlihs broke his face.
During the opening period, Redlihs laid out to block a slapshot and ended up using his face to do it.

The 33-year-old Latvian was down for the count and needed to be helped off the ice and when he got up he had a fresh bump on the side of his face.
