I don’t miss the home plate collision and was happy to see it taken out of baseball. It just didn’t seem necessary to me and seemed like an an easy way to sell that the owners care about player safety. They don’t but it was nice to see them at least pretend to.
Last night Toronto Blue Jays Chris Coghlan had one of the most impressive slides to home you’ll ever see when he soared over St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina scoring a jaw-dropping run.

It isn’t everyday you see something for the first time on a baseball diamond, baseball more than any sport is a game of rinse and repeat, part of its charm. The impressive part isn’t just the jump, he could have easily jumped over Yadier Molina and missed home plate. Hell, even Willie Mayes Hayes had to reach back and make sure he touched home plate.
