The NBA pre-season is well underway and everyone is working themselves into shape. First thing that Jamal Crawford needs to work on double knotting those sneakers. The Clippers sharpshooter lost his sneaker during a pre-season game with the Raptors. Or maybe this was an elaborate new scheme by the Clipper offense?
Crawford lost his shoe in the middle of an offensive possession and Blake Griffin in what was either an attempt to clear the shoe for the safety of the player or Griffin trying using the shoe to set a pick for Chris Paul. I don’t think the officials blew the whistle so I assume there isn’t anything against the rules about using footwear as an obstacle for a defender to maneuver. I know you can’t throw your shoe at a player with the ball in their possession, but Joseph was a defender.
This is becoming a trend in basketball, at least once a season a player loses a shoe and that becomes part of the narrative in a play. That time Marreese Speights lost his shoe:
