After refusing to be drafted in 1967, Muhammad Ali lost his heavyweight belt and his boxing license was suspended. Fast-forward to 1970 and Ali was in Miami Beach at the legendary 5th Street Gym training for his return.

Photographer Al Satterwhite spent sometime with ‘The People’s Champion’ as he trained to fight Jerry Quarry in 1970 and the legendary ‘Fight of the Century’ versus Joe Fraser in 1971. Now Satterwhite is raising funds on Kickstarter to publish a book of images, ‘The Secret of Muhammad Ali’ which show Sports Illustrated’s ‘Sportsman of the Century’ during a pivotal era of his career.

The Kickstarter campaign runs until Saturday June 21st and the photography book includes over 200 iconic and never-before-seen images, commentary from Gay Talese, James Toback, Stanley Crouch and many more. Check out a sample of the pictures and the Kickstarter video.
